Do you think sending 2 or 3 kids back to school is tough on the wallet? How about 6 kids, as a single mother living fortnight to fortnight off Centrelink? With hungry bellies to feed, growing feet, shrinking uniforms, and expensive textbooks to purchase for her kids, including the rising cost of living such as utility bills, rent, petrol, and inflation in grocery prices, Adela was really feeling the financial pressure this year to make ends meet.
Adela applied online to NZF for assistance, and a few weeks later, she was allocated a Zakat Officer. It was evident that she was quite distressed and concerned about how she was going to send her children to school this year and keep up with the rising cost of living. Feeling this pressure and dealing with grief from the recent passing of her father, all of this took a significant emotional toll on her.
During the interview to assess her eligibility for Zakat, it became clear that Adela was primarily concerned about sending her children to school this year. Subsequently, she was approved for our Back 2 School program to alleviate the financial pressure.
Local Zakat in action plays a significant role in strengthening our community and empowering generations to come, ensuring that both parents and children feel secure in a brighter future.
