Starting Over: Hanan’s Journey from Gaza
Hanan came to Australia escaping the war in Gaza, seeking safety and a fresh start for herself and her one-year-old son. As a single mother, she was initially on a tourist visa, which was later changed to a bridging visa. Determined to rebuild her life, she enrolled in English classes to improve her skills. However, a medical condition has prevented her from working and providing for her child.
When Hanan first arrived, she was placed on NZF’s six-month Gaza assistance program, which helped her manage her basic needs. With additional support from community organisations, she was able to get by. But when that assistance ended, she quickly fell behind on rent. With no income, no family to rely on, and mounting uncertainty about her future, she feared losing the stability she had worked so hard to build.
Once again, Hanan turned to NZF. Thanks to your Zakat, she received the rent support she desperately needed, giving her time to focus on her English studies and work towards financial independence. From the moment she arrived in Australia until now, your Zakat has been a lifeline, ensuring that she and her son are not left without shelter and support.
