Abbas is a young man who had left his home country to pursue his dreams of a better future. He had come to Australia on a humanitarian visa, leaving behind his family, friends, and the life he had known. He was determined to make the most of this opportunity, and so he enrolled in university to study computer science.
As he tried to adjust to his new life, he began to experience excruciating pain in his teeth. After visiting a dentist, he was told that he needed extensive dental treatment to address the issue. He paid for the initial treatment out of his own pocket, but as the cost of the treatments increased, he found himself struggling to keep up with the payments. Abbas was unable to continue with the treatment due to his financial constraints. The pain in his teeth became unbearable, making it hard for him to concentrate on his studies or enjoy his daily life.
Abbas was not aware of the National Zakat Foundation's existence until he was referred to us by a friend. He was relieved to learn that there was an organisation that could provide assistance to people living in Australia who were struggling with financial hardship. Our case officers reviewed Abbas' circumstances and found he was eligible for Zakat. With the help of local Zakat funds, Abbas was able to complete his dental treatments, which he could not have afforded otherwise. This support gave him the relief he needed to focus on his studies and to continue pursuing his dreams.
Abbas' experience is a reminder that even in developed countries like Australia, access to healthcare can be costly and unattainable for some individuals, particularly those who are experiencing financial difficulties. National Zakat Foundation's work highlights the importance of providing support to those who are struggling, especially during challenging times like these.
If you or someone you know is experiencing hardship and you're unsure whether you/they are eligible for Zakat, please don't hesitate to contact us at NZF for assistance.
