Sawsan’s Children
* Trigger Warning.
What happens to the children when a mother is murdered by her husband?
Sawsan endured years of abuse, trapped in silence while those around her looked the other way. She had moved to Australia after marriage, leaving behind her family and friends, with only her husband’s relatives nearby. She had no idea where to seek help.
Sawsan had six children. When she was killed (may Allah have mercy on her) her children were separated and placed in the care of her husband’s family. With their father in prison and their mother gone, they were left to grow up without her love, in the shadow of trauma.
When Sawsan’s sister, Eman, heard the news, she flew to Australia to identify her sister’s body. But once she arrived, standing over her sister’s lifeless form, she knew one thing with certainty: she could not leave her nieces and nephews behind.
But staying in Australia wasn’t easy. Eman had exhausted her funds, and taking legal custody of the children meant packing up her life overseas and starting again in a foreign country. She didn’t know where to turn or how to manage it alone.
In desperation, Eman reached out to NZF, seeking advice and support. Alhamdulillah, through your Zakat, her immediate needs were met. She was also connected with services that could assist her further, allowing her to remain in Australia and begin the process of bringing her sister’s children back into a loving, safe home.
This is the power of your Zakat. It doesn’t just offer financial support; it helps rebuild lives.
