Overnight Change

April 2, 2021

Ramia woke up to the smoke alarm beeping.

She immediately smelt smoke and panicked. Her first thought was that of her two children in the other bedroom. She rushed out and noticed a fire in the family room which was thankfully away from the bedroom. She grabbed her kids and ran out the backdoor to the garden and called the police. Unfortunately there was nothing much she could do but watch the fire slowly ruin her house. She was grateful she and her kids were safe but being a single mother she wasn't sure what was next.

Ramia has a business and was generally living a normal life. While they did not particularly have excess money, they were able to lead a comfortable life. However the unexpected fire all of a sudden now meant she had to find a new place to rent and fund all the setup of the house all of a sudden. These were finances that she had not planned for. Luckily, she is able to live at her parents house temporarily, and while it is crowded, atleast she has a safe place to stay with her kids.

Ramia had never imagined she would be in such a situation before and had no idea what to do. When a friend suggested she reach out to NZF, she was skeptical but decided to try anyway as she had no other choice. When our case workers reviewed Ramia's case, it was pretty obvious that she was in genuine need of help as a one off measure to get her out of this situation. We assisted her with the bond to find a new rental place and also some funding to get some furniture. No doubt, Ramia will be able to pick her life back up once she is able to get a place to live for her family insha Allah.

Situations such as Ramia's could happen to any one of us, at any time when we least expect it.
