Emira's world changed in an instant when tragedy struck shortly after her family's arrival in Australia. Her husband passed away unexpectedly, leaving her to navigate the complexities of a new country as a widow and mother to two orphaned children. Struggling to make ends meet with minimal income, Emira caught the attention of a compassionate social worker who referred her to NZF for assistance.
Upon assessment, it became clear that Emira and her children were facing challenging times. Their home lacked basic necessities, with the children sleeping on the floor and insufficient food to sustain them. Despite the language barrier, with the help of an interpreter, after assessment we determined Emira's eligibility for Zakat.
Your Zakat, provided beds and mattresses for each of the children, replacing the cold, hard floor they had been sleeping on. Additionally, their home was furnished with essential items, and stocked up with enough food. Emira's children are now enrolled in our Brighter Futures (orphan) program, which will provide ongoing assistance until they no longer require support.
This is your local Zakat in action, supporting and easing the struggles faced by a new widow alone.
