Kicked Out on the Street with Her Baby
Kicked Out on the Street with Her Baby
Rukaya’s world turned upside down in an instant. She had married overseas and was brought to Australia on a spousal visa, hopeful for a new beginning. But with very limited English and no family or friends to turn to, she found herself in a desperate situation. One scorching 40-degree day, her husband, in a fit of anger, threw her and her baby out onto the street with nothing.
With no one to call and nowhere to go, Rukaya remembered a masjid she had attended once before. Clutching her baby, she made her way there, hoping for any form of help. The masjid community, seeing her distress, reached out to us at NZF.
We immediately placed Rukaya and her baby in crisis accommodation, ensuring they had a safe place to stay. We provided her with essential furniture, food, and access to critical services to help her regain stability. Over time, as trust built, we learned that she had been enduring an ongoing cycle of family violence, something she had been too ashamed and afraid to share in the beginning.
Thanks to your Zakat, Rukaya received the immediate assistance she needed to rebuild her life. Today, she is thriving, caring for her child, regaining her independence, and finding comfort in a community that has embraced her with open arms.
Your generosity has given Rukaya and her baby the chance to heal and move forward. This is the power of local Zakat.
