From the Brink of Homelessness

March 7, 2024

Yasemin was married for 15 years before divorcing 3 years ago. Before then, her ex-husband was in charge of all the expenses. Since the divorce, Yasemin had to learn to be more financially independent.

Studying her PHD full time, living alone and taking care of all her expenses, she unexpectedly fell ill and needed to take medical leave. Since she’s taken medical leave, all her savings have been used up these past couple of months, and she now accumulates rent arrears. Having no other income and awaiting on Centrelink approval, Yasemin needed urgent help; otherwise, she was going to be evicted.

She applied to NZF. After assessment, we found that she needed assistance with her rent, bills, and groceries, just until she was fit enough to return to study and work.

This is your Local Zakat in action that has helped Yasmin secure her home and ease the burdens she was facing.
