Finding Resilience

May 10, 2024

Inaya's journey to safety began with a referral from her social worker to NZF. Fleeing her home with her two young children due to family violence, Inaya faced numerous challenges. Originally from overseas, her situation became even more dire after she married and moved to Australia. Her husband had controlled all aspects of her life, denying her the opportunity to work, have her own money, or even open a bank account. Isolated from any family support, Inaya found herself in temporary accommodation, protected only by an AVO against her ex-husband.

With the support of her social worker, Inaya managed to open a bank account and connect to services from Centrelink. However, during this transition period, she had no income until her Centrelink payments could start.

Having heard about NZF and how we assist our local Muslim community, Inaya's social worker applied for assistance on her behalf. Recognising the urgency, Inaya's application assessment was fast-tracked, and we found that she is eligible for Zakat. With your Zakat, Inaya received essential assistance for herself and her children. This support provided them with what they needed until her Centrelink payments began, allowing her to take the time to secure a more permanent home.

Inaya's story is one of resilience and hope, highlighting the important role that community support and Zakat can play in helping those in dire circumstances rebuild their lives.
