Elderly Financial Abuse

March 1, 2025

Warda, a 76-year-old widow, lived a quiet life after the passing of her husband 15 years ago. For much of that time, she relied on her brother-in-law for financial support. But when he passed away last year, Warda suddenly found herself struggling to make ends meet.

Despite her best efforts, she fell behind on bills and became increasingly overwhelmed. Recently, she was diagnosed with an eye condition that has caused her vision to deteriorate, making it even harder to manage her finances or keep track of important documents.

When NZF assessed her case, it became clear that Warda’s situation was more complex than it seemed. There were signs she may have been experiencing financial abuse—possibly from someone she trusted.

Through your Zakat, Warda received urgent support to cover her outstanding bills, allowing her to regain some control over her finances. More importantly, she now has a support system in place, ensuring she is no longer vulnerable or alone.

Her journey is not over, but she no longer faces it in isolation. With NZF by her side, those who once took advantage of her will know she is being looked after. With ongoing Zakat support, Warda can focus on her health without the constant fear of financial instability, knowing that her community is watching over her and standing up for her every step of the way.
